Monique Parker, E-RYT is the director of Svastha Yoga Institute, the US-affiliate school of Svastha Yoga and Ayurveda in Chennai, India. A yoga practitioner for nineteen years, Monique works with students from across the US, synthesizing the fundamentals of asana, yoga psychology, pranayama, mantra, and chant. She has over seven hundred hours of yoga teacher training and has mentored dozens of apprentice teachers. In 2009, she co-founded the Yoga Teacher Certification Program at the University of New Mexico-Taos. Her monthly yoga and wellness column, “Meditate on This”, appears in The Taos News, as well as her blog of the same name. She is on the board of The Mandala Center, a non-profit retreat facility in Des Moines, New Mexico. This year Monique was named one of the “Remarkable Women of Taos,” a year-long celebration honoring outstanding historic and contemporary women of the Taos community.

Martha Flanders received her yoga teacher certification twice--first at the University of New Mexico-Taos and then through Svastha Yoga and Ayurveda in Chennai, India with A.G. and Indra Mohan. She is continues her studies at the 500-hour level through Svastha Yoga Therapy with Ganesh Mohan, and teaches asana classes in Taos, NM and South Padre Island, Texas. Martha has taken yoga classes for years, but it wasn’t until she was introduced to Svastha Yoga that she came to appreciate yoga as a personal approach to well being. Martha will be co-teaching The Mandala Center 200-hour modules.

Raquela Moncada-Cowan moved from Argentina six years ago with her three teenage kids. Desiring to continue her fitness program, she joined a health club where she took her first yoga class. Fifteen minutes after taking off her shoes she was obsessed with her newfound partner: yoga. Today she still talks about the initial feeling of stillness that lasted well beyond the classroom. Raquela received her 200-hour certification through UNM-Taos, and is now pursuing her yoga studies at the 500-hour level with Dr. Ganesh Mohan of Svastha Yoga & Ayurveda. Raquela teaches classes at the Northside Health & Fitness in Taos. Her wish is to pass on her passion for the practice to as many people possible by offering classes in both English and her native Spanish. Raquela will be co-teaching both The Mandala Center and Puerto Rico 200-hour programs.

Carrie Leven came to Taos, New Mexico in 1993 to Pursue a career as an archeologist and anthropologist. Carrie began practicing yoga to prevent osteoporosis and was quickly drawn to Svastha Yoga as a wellness program for stress management. She received her 200-hour yoga teacher certification from UNM-Taos in 2012 with Monique Parker and is completing her 500-hour level studies in Yoga Therapy with Dr. Ganesh Mohan. She received Level 1 & 2 training in Mindful Yoga Therapy for Veterans with Daniel Libby and Suzanne Manafort in 2013. Carrie’s husband is a Vietnam Veteran, and her father, brother, uncles and grandfather are war Veterans. Her closeness to the unseen injuries of war fuels her passion to share the peaceful, healing benefits of Svastha Yoga with Veterans, their families and communities. Carrie will be co-teaching both The Mandala Center and Puerto Rico 200-hour programs.

“I completed the 200 hr.  Yoga Teacher Training through the Svastha Yoga Institute in Taos, NM almost a year ago.  That experience changed the way I live my life, my yoga practice and my understanding of yoga.  It also brought about relationships with people who I now consider to be part of my family.  The instruction and training given by Monique Parker are consistent with the standards set forth by her teacher, A.G. Mohan.  She maintains the integrity of his teaching, imparting her great knowledge and deep understanding of the fundamental principles of Svastha Yoga.  Her ability to explain yoga psychology based on the Yoga Sutras is phenomenal.  My mind was truly enriched and expanded by what I learned.  Through Monique’s instruction yoga became a “whole” practice, not just asana, but also, pranayama, meditation and chanting, uniting body, breath and mind.  I was privileged to sit at her feet.  I continue to be inspired by her teaching.   Fellow students and I who completed the Svastha Yoga Teacher Training program have a solid grounding in yoga practice and whether we are teaching classes or not, pass on the legacy through our lives.” - Janice Crouse

“The Svastha Yoga 200 Hour Teacher Certification is an exceptional teacher training program! Monique Parker is a very gifted teacher! Her dedication to the practice of yoga, great wealth of knowledge, and understanding is evident in her teaching. The program flawlessly combines yoga philosophy, asana, vinyasa krama, chanting, and pranayama throughout the course. The teachings and practices in this program invite the student to journey on a path of inner awakening and steadiness, with a perfectly balanced emphasis on the holistic integration of the breath, body, and mind. Students in this program have learned to develop and deepen their personal practices and gained the skills to become highly qualified yoga teachers. I have completed this program and I highly recommend it! It is the real deal! A complete and total package.” - Julie Cortopassi

“From Sri T. Krishnamacharya to A. G. Mohan to Monique Parker, the knowledge of yoga is dispersed.  Monique preserves the integrity of these teachings and delivers them with proficiency.  She instructs with knowledge, passion and clarity that can only be gained from examination, understanding and personal experience.  I am grateful to Monique for giving me the inspiration and skills to enhance my life and those of my students.” - Martha Flanders

“At SYI in New Mexico I learned what Yoga was from the inside out. The teaching was respectful of your person, ability, life experience and level of study. I never felt abandoned in the Asana teachings or our of place asking difficult questions about Yoga psychology. All my needs were met by a genuine love for the deeply transformational path of YOGA . Citta vrtti nirodaha!” - Robin Ross-Duggan
